Crafty Fridays: Christmas Advent Calendar

by - Friday, December 09, 2011

I am so, so excited to be able to finally show you a project that I have been working so hard on- my Christmas advent calendar! Eeeeeeeeeeee! I've always wanted to make one of these and I am absolutely thrilled with how it turned out.

It turned out even better than what I had planned in my head and for me to even finish this project is an amazing achievement {pats self on back}. I thought I wouldn't get this finished, seriously. I wanted to give up several times and there were many tears shed in the making of this project.

You can purchase the advent calendar from Kaisercraft, and let me tell you, it is not a project for the faint hearted. If I had known the amount of pain and fatigue it would cause me I'd have never attempted it, but now that it's finished I can't stop admiring it, and I am so proud that I have put something like this together. It's not a craft I highly recommend for arthritis and chronic fatigue sufferers, but I am proof that it can be done (even if it did take a month).

As you can imagine, a lot of patience is needed for this project- it took me a couple of days to get it assembled, painted, and it took me weeks to decorate the boxes- oh boy, don't get me started on those boxes, they took forever to stick all the paper on.

The papers that I used for this project were a mixture from the crafters choice christmas basics paper pack and the crafters choice Cute Christmas paper pack, both of which you can get at Spotlight. I decorated the insides of the boxes with tissue paper and after I painted the numbers white I applied a silver and clear glitter glue to make them sparkle.

I used white pearl strips to decorate the edges.

And how gorgeous is this ribbon! I used 2 1/2 metres and attached it with double sided tape. I bought this ribbon by the metre from Spotlight. Practically half the things for this project I got from Spotlight, pretty cool huh? I like to think I help keep them in business. I love that store!

Cutie patootie bird, right? I got this little gem from Spotlight too. They had lots of other gorgeous colours but I had to stick with white this time round as it was the only colour that matched in perfectly.

I decorated the inside square planks with silver and red glitter glue just for that little extra something.

Materials used: double sided tape, Lincraft Go Wild glitter glue in Silver, Disco & Red, super glue, JoSonja's paint in Titanium White & Napthol Red Light, Mod Podge.

Does this say Christmas or what?
